Czech-Meissen Frontier in the Time of the Reign of Jan of Luxembourg

This bachelor's thesis deals with the process of creating power-political support by the governor and focuses on the border area of the north-west and partly also north Bohemia. It is trying to present methods of the Czech monarch with which he could overcome a strong interior opposition including leading members of the Czech aristocracy such as John of Vartemberk and create a system of power support with which he could accomplish plans of his internal and foreign policies. It is therefore trying to determine to what extent the Czech king, John of Bohemia, employed Western European feudal principles, dynastic policy and also influence of municipality as a means of creating support in strategically important regions and how successful he was in his activity. A view of the expansive activities of the Czech governors in the Czech-Meissen area in 11-13th century and in connection with it also a brief outline of the expansive concern of the Premyslid dynasty competitors on the other side of the border, margraves of Meissen and since 1248 also landgraves of Thuringia of House of Wettin is also a part of this bachelor's thesis. Image of Elizabeth of Bohemia (1292-1330) in chronicals and prose

The aim of this thesis is to find out image of Elizabeth of Bohemia (1292 - 1330) in chronicals and prose. The first part is about Chronicon aulae regiae and relationship between Petrus Zittaviensis and Elizabeth of Bohemia and effect of this relationship on text of Chronicon aulae regiae. The second part is about prose of the second half of the 20th century and begenning of the 21st centruy. Attention is focussed on the key scenes of the life of Elizabeth of Bohemia, their views by various authors and on the figure of Elizabeth in particular textes, on its development and characteristics. The aim of this part is to show, how is development in imaging of Elizabeth on prose from the second half of the 20th century to begenning of the 21st century.
Methodology of Diplomacy of John of Bohemia

The subject of the thesis is to formulate the methodology of work with different types of sources for the study of diplomacy in the Middle Ages. In the first part, the author defines the essential terminology : medieval diplomacy and diplomatic deed. The basis of sources is divided into categories according to the types of documents and for each group, a procedure of analysis is determined. The sources are always defined, classified and the state of their preservation is assessed. On the basis of the aforsaid evaluation, a suitable methodology for the analysis of medieval diplomacy is apropriated to every category of sources. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to the study of the "staff of diplomacy", i.e. envoys, whose analysis allows to show the use of methodological approches to different sources for one scientific question.
Incorporation of Luxembourg among the Lands of the Bohemian Crown

The object of this diploma thesis is the incorporation of Luxembourg among the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. This theme was chosen primarily for the reason that it have not been compiled and analyzed by historiography so far. Available literature usually takes the incorporation of Luxembourg in the Bohemian Crown automatically as a fact without further reasoning. As a result of this approach there is considerable amount of inaccuracies and mistakes in literature. Primary inaccuracy is in a date or in a time period determining the incorporation of Luxembourg in the Bohemian Crown, when literature often indicate the reign of King Charles IV or even the reign of King John of Luxembourg. The purpose of this diploma thesis is not only analyzing the process of incorporation, but also disproves continuing inaccuracies. For this reason the diploma thesis draws and analyzes essential facts primarily from original sources and confront them with available literature. First chapter briefly introduces the institution of the Bohemian Crown for her distinguish from the Kingdom of Bohemia. Further it analyzes the terms "crown" and "incorporation". John of Bohemia and his Connections to Avignon Papacy

(English): The main topic of the study is to gather the evidence of communication between John of Luxembourg and popes of Avignon. The preserved edited material is classified and described on the first place by initiator of the communication, then by content, form or intent of the document. This leads to new definitions of diplomatic categories of the sources. The study is completed by extensive tables containing royal requests with benefactions and names of recipients. At the end, the author develops questions which the material imposes for future studies.

The Luxemburgs and the Apennine Peninsula

Ve své diplomové práci se jsem se pokusil popsat politickou situaci v Itálii v první třetině 14. století se zaměřením na působení významných osobností Lucemburského rodu v této oblasti. Pro zpracování jsem zvolil léta 1308-1313, 1330-1333 a rok 1337. Zaměřil jsem se hlavně na osobu Jindřicha IV. Lucemburského, jeho nástup k moci, volbu říšským králem a následnou cestu za císařskou korunou. V práci rozebírám reformy, které Jindřich použil při správě Italských měst během cesty na Řím. Dále se zaměřuji na odezvu, kterou jeho působení vyvolávalo u příslušníků dvou hlavních politických směrů v Itálii, tedy u guelfů a ghibelinů, i u francouzského krále Filipa IV. a u papeže Klimenta V. pobývajícího tou dobou v Avignonu. Dále se zaobírám pokusem českého krále Jana Lucemburského a jeho syna Karla o založení Lucemburské signorie na území Lombardie, Toskánska a Emilia Romagna a jejich neúspěšné snahy o udržení tohoto území pod Lucemburskou nadvládou. A Karlovo krátkodobým pokusem o získání území v severní Itálii v roce 1337. Opět se věnuji vlivu jejich působení na politiku měst zmíněných oblastí. Také se okrajově zaměřuji na vliv Jindřicha Lucemburského na spisovatele Danta Alighieriho a jeho dílo "De Monarchia" s Jindřichovo tažením do Říma jako předlohou pro vznik tohoto díla.
